What Referral Program Works Best?

We know that referral programs work. In a recent data review, we found that 8.1% of registrations came from referrals, with 74.5% of those registrants being new to the race. But how should you decide on the best referral setup for your race? It depends on your priorities.

Options Include:

  • If you want to turn everyone into a referrer, try a low threshold, low reward program that maximizes sharing.

  • If you want to keep spend as low as possible, try a high threshold, medium reward program that reduces the number of refunds.

  • If you have a high cost event, try a bold program with a medium threshold for a super-high reward to motivate referrers.

There's no one-size-fits-all best for referral programs. But that doesn't mean you need to fly blind. Take a look at what has worked for races this year, and pick the referral program that best matches your priorities and race setup. Referrals boost registrations!
